I've painted the new front section black, which looks a hell of a lot better!
Also re-fitted all of the lights and tested them, replacing bulbs where
necessary.
When I tested the headlights I realised the existing one was much dimmer than
the new one I bought from Smashing VWs. When I looked closely I realised the
reflector was brown, not shiny!
Also, something has flattened the battery - I think it was me leaving the boot open
too much - hence the battery charger.
The other major thing I've done is fit a Big Red Button. I've always fancied having a car with an engine start button, so I thought why not put one in the Audi. So I scoured the boy racer shops, and Ebay until I finally found one that fitted my mental picture - a Big Red Button with chrome surround. Unfortunately it was on Ebay.com so I had to wait a while for it to arrive from the US. $6 for the button itself, $26 shipping! It was advertised as coming with full instructions, which it does if you read Japanese! Anyway, not a problem. After much poring over the wiring diagram in my Haynes manual I finally sussed out which wires to cut. I decided to make it as simple as possible - so all it does is link the switched live on the ignition to the wire that connects on the final turn of the key. But it works! The hardest bit was carving out the back of the cigarette lighter socket to allow the button to fit. I relocated the cigarette lighter to the side of the centre console.
